Overview

The Town is advancing the reconstruction of Hadden Road. The future road configuration will include upgrades to better support a minor collector road, including improvements to the road base, pavement widening, centre turning lanes, drainage improvements and a new multi-use path or sidewalk.

Project updates

The Town awarded the engineering assignment to Elements Engineering Inc. Elements has started background investigations to inform preliminary design and will also provide inspection and contract administration services during construction.

The Town completed a Traffic Impact Study to assess current and future traffic impacts along the Hadden Road corridor. The study identified the need to upgrade Hadden Road from a rural local road to a minor collector road to support anticipated traffic volumes and future development.

Hadden Road was identified through the Town’s 2023 pavement condition assessment as a suitable candidate for reconstruction, as the road was approaching the end of its service life. Reconstruction of the pavement platform was anticipated between 2027 and 2029.

FAQs

The reconstruction includes upgrades to both the road structure and the intended function of the roadway.

As part of the upgrade to a minor collector road, the pavement platform may be widened or reconfigured to better accommodate turning movements, increased traffic volumes, pedestrians, cyclists and other transportation needs.

This may include intersection improvements, centre turning lanes, pedestrian crossings, multi-use paths or sidewalks, traffic calming features, stormwater improvements and other related infrastructure upgrades.

Minimal disruptions are anticipated during the design phase of the project. Road construction generally involves temporary lane closures, construction equipment and short-term driveway disruptions as work progresses throughout the corridor.

During the construction period, residents and commuters should expect periodic traffic delays, noise, dust and changing traffic conditions. The Town will make best efforts to minimize disruptions where possible and keep the community informed well in advance of upcoming construction activities and road impacts.

Highway 48 is a provincially owned and regulated corridor under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). At this time, the design phase includes consideration for minor intersection improvements at Highway 48 and Hadden Road; however, consultation with MTO is ongoing and the ultimate scope of improvements within the intersection has not yet been determined.
